With More Foods Being Added To The Shortage List As The Lunatic Fringe Declares War On Our Food Supply, We Must Learn To Become Self-Sufficient And Create Our Own Emergency Survival Foods
Preppers could learn a lot from the Amish about prepping as they do it as a way of life, not as a hobby or as an emergency survival plan, and with the type of food shortages being predicted for 2023, including fruits and vegetables, perhaps now is the time to make prepping a way of life for the rest of us as well.
In a previous prepping piece we discussed the upcoming shortages and the massive food inflation that is still rising as reports of overall inflation claim it is lowering. While we still see some of the same items experiencing issues, such as canned goods, poultry, wheat and oils, we are also seeing more consumables added to the list, for a variety of reasons.
For those wanting to stock up on freeze dried foods, and wheat berries, among other things, here is a link to the previous piece with all those links included.
This article stems from the discussions in the comment section of that piece, where one reader mentioned the cost of canning supplies, with another reminding everyone of the shortages of canning supplies suffered in late 2020, following state leaders shutting down much of the businesses in their states, deeming them "non-essential."
As confirmation of the assertion regarding the canning supply shortages in 2020, we pulled an article explaining, such as one from October 2020, how mason jars and lids were in short supply do to more people cooking at home during the "pandemic," when restaurants and diners were deemed non-essential," and forced to shut down.
The increase in the number of people cooking and trying recipes during the pandemic has led to a surge in canning because experienced canners are doing it more and novices want to give it a try.
And that surge has led to a shortage in Mason jars and lids.
Theres so many more people canning this year than have ever canned. We have seen a big upswing in new people trying to can, said Nellie Oehler, the coordinator for Oregons statewide food preservation hotline, who added shes been answering lots of calls from around the nation about the lack of supply.
In most cases the prices at brick and mortar stores are still higher than they were before 2020, so it takes a bit of hunting to find the supplies needed at reasonable costs, even more than two years later.
FRUITS AND VEGGIES ARE AN ISSUE NOW........
Do to a variety of causes, whether the megadrought, viruses in plants in the west or hurricanes in the southeast, multiple produce products are seeing shortages and/or price hikes.
They grow their own vegetables for canning. Granted they have large farm spaces to keep dozens if not hundreds fed, depending on the size of the specific community. For most Americans growing a small garden outside or inside, is enough to feed themselves and their families.
Another very interesting little tidbit I learned in researching the Amish, is while they grow their own vegetables, many Amish communities buy their fruits and then can them.
That is handy in a number of way because while growing our own food helps us become self-sustainable food-wise, it does take time to plant, grow and then harvest, so grabbing fruits and vegetables from the store, while they are still in stock and before the prices spike even higher, and canning as much as possible now, buys the time needed for our own crops to grow.
Lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes and oranges are the individual products we are warned of at the moment. All of which can be grown at home, inside or outside, and in quantities that are enough to feed a family and enough to can for future use.
During a time of systematic, 'big tech' censorship and widespread institutional corruption, truth-seeking media and alternative vi ews are crucial, and EVERY little bit helps more than you could know!)
GROW IT YOURSELF.......
For those with limited space, grow bags are absolutely the way to go. Whether potatoes, carrots, or basically any root vegetables, filled them, seed them, water them and slap some grow lights over them and you could grow them in a closet if need be for space saving purposes.
The health benefits alone is reason enough to want to grow your own food. You know what is in it. You harvest and eat, or can and then eat at a later date, but you know exactly when it was picked. No picking early, so it can be trucked all over the country and by the time you buy from the store, it is already days or weeks old.
For those that haven't gardened or grown any of your own food, start with books, they will save us from ruined food.
As we can see, the food supply issues are not going away, and more foods are being added each time we see the reports.
Whether from a megadrought, plant viruses or weather events, doesn't really matter as much as much as finding ways around the problems.
Something to think about here is making a habit or hobby of growing your own foods into a permanent lifestyle choice, so whenever an overreaching tyrannical state leader decides to do something that will effect the food supply chain, it won't affect you.
When crops fail due to weather issues, it won't affect you. When mad scientists finally do genetically modify the nation's plants, you won't have to worry about the food you are eating.
CANNING YOUR FOODS....
Do to pricing, and the continued aluminum shortages, canning supplies, while available, are not guaranteed to stay that way, nor are they as readily available as before 2020.
While I have checked the links below for reviews, pricing and availability, we still suggest those planning to buy canning supplies, kits and books, take a look at the reviews yourself, because what is acceptable for one person, is not always the correct choice for another.
We'll save the freeze drying and dehydrating of foods for another day, but that is also an option to help prepare for the ongoing, and new, food shortages that keep hitting us.
While not everyone would like to live the complete Amish lifestyle, when it comes to food, they did not suffer the shortages or price hikes of 2020, 2021 and 2022, because they live their lives being prepared and continuing to prepare.
For many there are only so many food buckets they can afford, or have space for, but learning to create your own survival foods, is not only less expensive, but you also know exactly where your food came from.
