Competition in Commercial Space Industry, Stockpiling Medicines And Their Ingredients, VA Is Processing Claims Faster, Patriot William Floyd, And More

By S.E. Gunn, PhD -All News Pipeline

President Trump is working to restore Free Enterprise to our country. He is removing barriers from businesses so they can move on with the actual running of their business rather than dealing with government overreach in terms of laws, rules, and regulations. To this end, on August 13, 2025, President Trump signed EORevocation of Executive Order on Competition revoking the July 9, 2021 EO 14036Promoting Competition in the American Economysigned by President Autopen. EO 14036 seems to have overlaid additional government oversight and regulations under the guise of seeking to prevent monopolies. Reading through the revoked EO from today's perspective, there are keywords like unfair, oversight, exercise of regulatory authority, whole-of-government approach, potentially harmful, influence, etc. All hallmarks of DEI and government over-reach, in my opinion. President Trump's EO simply revoked EO 14036 without the usual first section with an explanation, justification, or historical background.

On August 13, 2025, President Trump signed EOEnabling Competition in the Commercial Space Industrypredicated on the fact that President Trump wants the US to dominate the space industry, to include space-based industries, space exploration capabilities, and defense systems that use cutting-edge technology. To accomplish this, President Trump is ordering government agencies to streamline both commercial licenses and permit approvals for US-based operators.

Section 3 tasks the Secretary of Transportation to eliminate or expedite environmental reviews for granting launch and reentry licenses and permits with a report due within 120 days of this order.

Section 4 tasks the Secretaries of Commerce, Defense, & Transportation, along with the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to conduct evaluations of barriers to development of spaceport infrastructure on Federal lands, to include State regulations to determine which ones should be revoked. DOJ is to be notified of State rules, regulations, or laws that are inconsistent with Federal law concerning development of spaceports on Federal lands. A report is expected within 180 days detailing what duplicate processes can be eliminated.

Section 5 tasks the Secretary of Commerce to propose a process for the individualization of mission authorizations for activities covered by Article VI of the Outer Space Treaty of 1967which states:

States Parties to the Treaty shall bear international responsibility for national activities in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, whether such activities are carried on by governmental agencies or by non-governmental entities, and for assuring that national activities are carried out in conformity with the provisions set forth in the present Treaty. The activities of non-governmental entities in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, shall require authorization and continuing supervision by the appropriate State Party to the Treaty. When activities are carried on in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, by an international organization, responsibility for compliance with this Treaty shall be borne both by the international organization and by the States Parties to the Treaty participating in such organization.

Section 6 tasks the Secretary of Transportation to establish, within 60 days, a position to advise the Secretary on fostering innovation and deregulation for the commercial space transportation industry. The Secretary of Commerce is to establish, within 60 days, an Office of Space Commerce.

The accompanying Fact SheetPresident Donald J. Trump Enables Competition in the Commercial Space Industryexplains that the goal of this EO is to streamline regulations and foster a competitive commercial space industry. It is imperative, for American dominance of the commercial space industry, that we pioneer the innovations and technology to accomplish these goals.

On August 13, 2025 President Trump signed EOEnsuring American Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Resilience by Filling the Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reservereminding us that in his 1st term, on August 6, 2020 he issued EO 13944 Combatting Public Health Emergencies and Strengthening National Security by Ensuring Essential Medicines, Medical Countermeasures, and Critical Inputs Are Made in the United Stateswith the final report listing 86 essential medications. At that time, only 10% of the ingredients necessary to produce any given drug was made in the US. He created a Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reserve (SAPIR) but it was totally ignored during the Autopen Administration.

Section 2 calls for filling the SAPOIR with the most critical medicines necessary for the health and security interests of our Nation. Within 30 days, a list of the 26 most critical drugs will be completed. Within 120 days, provided funding is available, the SAPIR is to be made ready to receive these ingredients.

Section 3 calls for a list of 86 essential medicines to be developed within 90 days along with a plan to obtain and store a 6-month supply of these medicines and their ingredients.

The accompanying Fact SheetPresident Donald J. Trump Ensures American Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Resilience by Filling the Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reserveexplains that this EO is expected to bolster our pharmaceutical security allowing the US to have on-hand a 6-month supply of 86 essential medicines (26 of them identified as critical) and ingredients. The EO also addresses vulnerabilities in the supply chain for essential medicines, such as not producing ingredients within the US for these essential/critical medications. The goal is to restore our self-reliance in producing our own medications and locally sourcing the ingredients to do so rather than relying on foreign countries to produce or source for us. Finally, the Fact Sheet reminds us that President Trump has issuedEO 14293 Regulatory Relief to Promote Domestic Production of Critical Medicines discussed in my May 6, 2025 ANP Article and EO 14297 Delivering Most-Favored-Nation Prescription Drug Pricing to American Patients discussed in my May 13, 2025 ANP Article.

On August 13, 2025, the White House published the articleICYMI: VA processes more claims in a single year than ever beforeachieving a 37% reduction in the number of pending claims through processing 2.5 million ratings claims since January 20, 2025. The article points out that during the Autopen Administration, there was a 24% rise in unprocessed claims.

The sobering part of this "improvement" in claims processing is that these claims represent our Military Service Members who were injured during their service. Those 2.5 million claims represents up to 2.5 million injured Service Members. And while I am glad claims are finally being processed in a more timely manner, we do not know how many of those claims are denied and how many are resubmitted multiple times.

There are horror stories out there about Veterans who had to file 5 or more times before they received the rating commensurate with their injuries. And many Veterans give up after the 1st denial. If you are a Veteran who needs to apply for disability, has applied but denied, or applied but did not receive the rating you think you should have received, you can contact the Disabled American Veterans (DAV)for assistance in obtaining benefits. While you are encouraged to join, it is not necessary to receive assistance in filing claims.

Today's Patriot is William Floyd who was born December 17, 1734 in Brookhaven, Province of New York on Long Island. He was 1st born of 9 children.

William's education was limited and unfinished(partially due to the early deaths of his parents). However, he was surrounded by many learned people from whom he was able to become more educated.

In 1755, his parents died within 4 months of one another and he inherited the estate on which he was born on the south shore of Long Island.

William married Hanna Jones (or Johnes) on August 23, 1760 in Brookhaven, Long Island, New York. They had 3 children, all of whom survived to adulthood.

After the Treaty of Paris in 1763, William started gravitating to politics. He was elected 3 times as trustee and served in the local militia as an officer. In 1769 he was elected to the Provincial Assembly. From 1774 to 1776, William served in the First Continental Congress as a representative of New York.

On September 5, 1775, William was made Colonel of the Western Regiment of Suffolk County, splitting his time between the militia and Congress. He signed the embossed copy of the Declaration of Independence on August 1, 1776, the first delegate from New York to do so.

This was followed by the British landing on Long Island and defeating General Washington on August 27, 1776. The British confiscated William's home. His family sailed across the sound to Middletown where they sheltered. His wife, Hannah, died May 16, 1781. From 1789 to 1791 he was elected to the First Congress under the new US Constitution, while simultaneously serving in the militia. He ultimately achieved the rank of Major General. At the end of the war, William returned to Long Island to find his home utterly destroyed by the British.

William marriedJoanna Strong on May 16, 1784. They had 2 children, both of whom lived to adulthood. After rebuilding the Long Island home, William turned it over to his oldest son in 1794 and moved to Oneida County (what is now Westernville), New York. Building a new home in Oneida.

Between 1803 and 1808, he served as a Senator of New York. In 1808, he returned to his first love, farming. About 2 years before his eventual deathhis body started experiencing a general debility, while his mind remained whole.

William died August 4, 1821 at age 87, most likely from complications of the lingering debility, at his plantation in Westernville, Oneida County, New York. He is interred in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Westernville.
