Labor Day, Overdose Prevention Week, War On Drugs, Beautiful Architecture, More Exemptions Of Federal Workers From Collective Bargaining, Patriot George Walton, And More

By S.E. Gunn, PhDAll News Pipeline

On September 2, 1882, the first Labor Day parade was held in New York. Workers took unpaid leave to march from City Hall to Union Square. On February 21, 1887, Oregon passed a state law recognizing Labor Day as an official holiday. On June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed the law creating a national public holiday to be celebrated on the first Monday in September each year.

On August 28, 2025, President Trump signed the Proclamation Labor Day, 2025 honoring the legacy of the American Workforce. He writes:

This Labor Day, we renew our pledge to protect American jobs and defend the dignity of American labor — and we proudly acknowledge the vital role that our workers play in our past, present, and glorious American future.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 1, 2025, as Labor Day.  I call upon all public officials and people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that honor the contributions and resilience of working Americans.

On August 28, 2025, President Trump signed the Proclamation Overdose Prevention Week, 2025 declaring the week from August 31, 2025 to September 6, 2025 as Overdose Prevention Week. The international community sets aside August 31, 2025 as Overdose Prevention Day. President Trump writes:

During this week, my Administration calls on every American to protect themselves and their families from the perils of drug overdose.  Preserving our American inheritance depends on freedom from danger, freedom from harm, and freedom to lead long, safe, and vigorous lives.  My Administration will never stop fighting to achieve a future that protects its citizens, defends its communities, and ensures that the American people are happy, healthy, and free.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim August 31 through September 6, 2025, as Overdose Prevention Week.  I call upon my fellow Americans to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, religious services, and other activities that raise awareness about the prescription opioid and drug overdose epidemic and to consider concrete follow-up activities.

On January 20, 2025, President Trump began his current war on drugs by signing EO 14157 Designating Cartels and Other Organizations as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists with a goal of total elimination of drug cartels doing business in the US. This EO also put the US AG, Secretary of Homeland Security, and Secretary of State on notice to be ready to support any decision to invoke the Alien Enemies Act, 50 USC 21 et seq. To this end, President Trump recently deployed our Navy to the Caribbean to police drug traffic between Venezuela (and other cartel operatives) and the US.

On August 28, 2025, the White House published the article White House Honors Law Enforcement Heroes in Fight Against Drug Trafficking in an awards ceremony held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to underscore the Trump Administration's proactive and aggressive stance against the flow of illegal drugs into the US. Among the honorees were:

  • The Bitcoin Fog Government Trial Team, recognized for dismantling one of the internet’s oldest and most notorious cryptocurrency mixing services, which laundered over $300 million for darknet drug traffickers.
  • The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Munro and its embarked Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) Detachment, for exemplary teamwork in the seizure of over 3,200 kilograms of cocaine in a daring maritime operation.
  • The CBP Fentanyl Canine Detection Training Team, for developing a revolutionary program that has empowered officers on the front lines and led to a staggering 860% increase in fentanyl seizures at U.S. ports of entry.

The White House remains committed to taking a proactive stance against illegal drugs. The article refers to the pdf: Statement of Drug Policy Priorities of April 1, 2025 detailing the policy, vision, and priorities of the Trump Administration when acting to stop the flow of illegal drugs into the US.

On August 28, 2025, President Trump signed the EO Making Federal Architecture Beautiful Again turns the focus of architecture to traditional, classical architecture that uplifts and beautifies public spaces. No more large, gray, cement buildings that the American public does not like or want. The architecture of public buildings should command respect while conveying the dignity, enterprise, vigor, and stability of America's system of self-governance. The EO goes on to identify styles such as Neoclassical, Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, Beaux-Arts, Gothic, Romanesque, Second Empire, Pueblo Revival, Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, and Art Deco as preferred styles of architecture. Whereas architecture that appears fragmented, discontinuous, distorted, skewed, or gives an appearance of instability generally known as deconstructivism is not acceptable.

The accompanying Fact Sheet President Donald J. Trump Directs Administration to Make Federal Architecture Beautiful Again explains that public buildings should look like public buildings while respecting regional architecture. President Trump thinks that our Citizens want beautiful spaces and beautiful buildings that represent our nation's heritage. President Autopen rescinded President Trump's 2020 EO Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture in 2021. Now that he is President again, President Trump has signed a series of orders to bring visual beauty, honor, safety, majesty, freedom, and strength back to our country.

If ever there were the perfect example of the type of architecture that President Trump does not want to see for our Federal buildings, this is it: The Obama Library! And it appears that most US Citizens agree with him. What do you think?

On August 28, 2025, President Trump signed the EO Further Exclusions from the Federal Labor-Management Relations Program identifies agencies and subdivisions that have a primary function of intelligence, counterintelligence, investigative, or national security work. As such, EO 12171 of November 19, 1979 is amended to exclude these organizations (listed below) from collective bargaining.

The accompanying Fact Sheet President Donald J. Trump Exempts Agencies with National Security Missions from Federal Collective Bargaining Requirements explains that the changes to the 1979 EO means that those who work with hydropower facilities in the Bureau of Reclamation; the National Aeronautics and Space Administration; the National Environmental Satellite, data, and Information Service, National Weather Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration; Office of the Commissioner of Patents, Patent and Trademark Office; or the US Agency for Global Media are now removed from collective bargaining due to their national security missions in which these agencies are involved. National Security must take precedence over all other considerations.

I think the Federal government employees should not be unionized. I also think Congress should be subjected to the same rules and regulations they impose on We The People. I think that, just like Social Security, a Cost Of Living Allowance (COLA) should be written in where raises are based on inflation, growth, and other economic indicators. Not what Congress gives themselves as a raise or what the Federal worker can force through collective bargaining. They work for We The People, and our taxes pay their salaries. Therefore, We The People should have a say in whether or not they get raises. Of course, even during times when the Federal government put a moratorium on raises, they figured out all they had to do was change the job title and they could still give their favorite people raises.

On August 28, 2025, President Trump signed the Memorandum Use of Appropriated Funds for Illegal Lobbying and Partisan Political Activity by Federal Grantees directs the US AG in consultation with department heads, to investigate how Federal grant funds are being used. If Federal grant funds are being used to illegally support lobbying efforts, the US AG is to take appropriate enforcement action. The US AG will report to the President on the status of this investigation within 180 days.

The accompanying Fact Sheet President Donald J. Trump Exempts Agencies with National Security Missions from Federal Collective Bargaining Requirements explains the goal is to enhance accountability for taxpayer monies. Taxpayer monies should not be going to partisan organizations, lobbies, or grants that are political in nature.

On August 28, 2025, the White House published the article Lowest Labor Day Gas Prices in Five Years as Travel Costs Dip in Trump Economy touting GasBuddy's declaration "the lowest price at the pump on Labor Day since 2020." The article also lists a variety of local news stations across the country who all agree that gas prices will be lower this Labor Day weekend.

On August 28, 2025, a new lawsuit was filed Cook v. Trump docket # 1:25-cv-02903 in District court, District of Columbia over the firing of Fed Governor Lisa Cook. The lawsuit seeks the following relief: 1) A declaration that President Trump’s August 25, 2025 purported firing of Governor Cook is unlawful and void and that Governor Cook remains an active member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve; 2) A declaration that members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve can only be removed for cause, meaning instances of inefficiency, neglect of duty, malfeasance in office, or comparable misconduct; 3) A declaration that an unsubstantiated allegation of mortgage fraud prior to a Governor’s confirmation is not cause for removal under the Federal Reserve Act; 4) A declaration that President Trump’s August 25, 2025 purported firing of Governor Cook violated her statutory right to notice and a hearing under the Federal Reserve Act and her due process rights under the Fifth Amendment; 5) An injunction against the Non-Presidential Defendants ordering that they refrain from effectuating President Trump’s illegal attempt to fire Governor Cook and treat Governor Cook as a member of the Board of Governors; 6) A writ of mandamus commanding the Non-Presidential Defendants to refrain from effectuating President Trump’s illegal attempt to fire Governor Cook from Federal service without following lawful procedures; 7) An award of the costs of this action and reasonable attorney fees under the Equal Access to Justice Act or any other applicable law; and 8) An award of all other appropriate relief. It must be pointed out that no where in this lawsuit does Cook ever claim she was being falsely accused of mortgage fraud only that the charges are, so far, "unsubstantiated." And you know the leftist court system in DC will initially find in her favor, so there will be appeals.

The boy who was denied a candle.

Today's Patriot is George Walton who was born around 1749 in Prince Edward County near Farmville, Colony of Virginia. George was one of 16 children, he had 2 full siblings and 13 half siblings.

His parents died by the time he was 12 and he apprenticed to his uncle, a carpenter, who refused to provide him a candle by which to read at night. This did not deter George from learning; however, he collected lightwood during the day to serve as his light at night.

In 1769, George left the carpentry apprenticeship and moved to Savannah, Georgia to pursue a successful career in law. He tutored under Henry Young and in 1774 he was admitted to the bar at the same time he became a Master Mason.

George married Dorothy Camber about 1775. They had 2 sons, both of whom survived to adulthood.

In 1775, George became president of the Council of Safety. In 1776 he served as a Georgia delegate to the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia (along with Button Gwinnett and Lyman Hall). He voted for and signed the Declaration of Independence.

He was granted the commission of Colonel in the Georgia militia. In 1778, he was captured when the British assaulted Savannah when his thigh was wounded and he fell from his horse. He was part of a prisoner exchange, returning to Georgia becoming its governor in 1779 serving for 2 months before being reelected to Congress. He retired to Augusta in the 1780s.

George suffered from long and frequent gout attacks after retirement. George died on February 2, 1804, he was about 55 years of age. He was originally interred in Rosney Cemetery in Augusta, Georgia. He was later moved to the stone obelisk memorial to the 3 Georgia signers of the Declaration of Independence (dedicated on July 4, 1848).
