Democrats, along with their puppets in the media, predicted the tariffs that President Trump implemented would skyrocket prices, and would cause an economic meltdown or collapse. The predictions were wrong . Inflation under the auto-pen president Joe Biden was far worse than anything seen stemming from the Trump tariffs, which have brought in roughly $350 billion as of September 2025, according to Torsten Slok, chief economist at Apollo Global Management, via Fortune.
Note: I am deliberately using expert analysis other than from the White House, or Republican politicians, to be more objective and not full of "hopium."
The U.S. government is currently collecting tariff revenues at an annualized pace of roughly $350 billion, a “significant” amount, according to Torsten Slok, chief economist at Apollo Global Management. In his typical style, one of brevity and striking charts, Slok added that the figure equates to roughly 18% of annual household income tax payments, underscoring that tariffs are not a marginal tool but a significant revenue source shaping America’s economic and trade landscape.
There is no doubt whatsoever that the Democrats, and their liberal media puppets wanted to see President Trump fail, wanted the economy to tank, for political purposes, hoping Trump would be blamed.
It didn't.
With Democrats low approval rating, which isn't getting any better as the months go by, and the 2026 midterms for control of the House of Representatives and the Senate a little more than a year away, and their failed predictions still not coming to fruition, they had to do something to tank the economy and shutting down the government by refusing to vote for a clean bill to keep the government open, was their opportunity.
The day after the Schumer shutdown began, CBS News, definitely not a conservative outlet, cited the cost to the U.S. economy from any government shutdown.
Each week of the ongoing government shutdown could cost the economy $7 billion and reduce GDP growth by 0.1 percentage points, according to an estimate published by EY-Parthenon chief economist Gregory Daco. That cost is a function of reduced pay for federal employees, delayed government procurement of goods and a decline in demand.
Democrats are playing a very dangerous game with America's economy, and the very lives of Americans.
While some in the MSM are calling Democrats out on their false claims that because Republicans control the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate, the shutdown is being caused by the Republicans, Democrats make those claims hoping Americans do not know how the filibuster works.
The federal government shut down on Oct. 1, 2025. Republicans control the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, but the minority Democrats have used their procedural power to prevent passage of a funding bill that would keep the government open.
This might be a surprise. The party in power should govern; when it fails, it should take the blame. But the reality is more complicated. Constitutional rules, Senate procedures, and political strategy combine to give the minority party real power to stop government funding.
The Senate procedure in this case is the filibuster where Republicans would need a super majority, 60 votes, in order to pass the clean CR bill.
The Senate tradition of unlimited debate has allowed for the use of the filibuster, a loosely defined term for action designed to prolong debate and delay or prevent a vote on a bill, resolution, amendment, or other debatable question. Prior to 1917 the Senate rules did not provide for a way to end debate and force a vote on a measure. That year, the Senate adopted a rule to allow a two-thirds majority to end a filibuster, a procedure known as "cloture." In 1975 the Senate reduced the number of votes required for cloture from two-thirds of senators voting to three-fifths of all senators duly chosen and sworn, or 60 of the 100-member Senate.
Kudos to the few news outlets that are confronting Democrats on air when they make their false claims of the shutdown being caused by Republicans.
In the meantime, Democrats are planning a NAPA Valley retreat amidst the government shutdown, and having rooftop parties at their headquarters, as the images below show.
Americans are going without paychecks, and Democrats are partying. Not great optics there.
Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat, has consistently been voting with Republicans on passing the clean CR bill, and had some brutal truth about his fellow Democrats.
No one really knows how long this shutdown is going to last as Democrats keep trying to force Republicans to add a trillion in spending to extend the expiration date for the Obamacare subsidies. The longer the shutdown lasts, the worse the financial strain will become on Americans.
BOTTOM LINE....
Whether Democrats tank the economy with the Schumer shutdown or not, it does highlight the need to be prepared, no matter which party controls the White House, House of Representatives and the Senate.
Prepping isn't just for disasters, as I can attest as I have been using survival and freeze dried foods recently when my funds for food are limited, so having extra preps, using it for stews, casseroles, soups and salads, has helped considerably.
