On August 23, 2025, President Trump announced during a press conference that Chicago was next for the crime clean-up treatment being given to DC (discussed in my August 23, 2025 ANP Article). You could tell by the look he provided with that statement that he fully expected the loony left to respond with a "pro-crime" and "pro-criminal" stance, and we are not disappointed.
The pro-crime, pro-criminal Chicago Mayor, Brandon Johnson, claims what President Trump is offering is a "flagrant violation of our constitution" calling what President Trump proposes a "military occupation." Instead of ending crime in his city, he proposes building "safe and affordable communities." While the Chicago Mayor says crime is down in Chicago, one must wonder if "crime is down" in Chicago for the same reasons it was "down" in DC, and other major cities. When they don't arrest criminals, do not prosecute criminals, and lessen the charges against the criminals, of course crime will "go down" but it is an artificial decrease.
Of course Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries had to add his 2-cents to the "pro-crime, pro-criminal" discussion. Jeffries is claiming that President Trump is "exacerbating the national mental health crisis" Jeffries claims is contributing to violent crime. Jeffries claims that democrats should support local law enforcement; but, isn't this the same party that has been demanding law enforcement be defunded? And, of course, there is the usual loony left nod to 'gun control' with Jeffries claiming that all that is necessary is for the 'the flood of guns into these communities [to be] cut off' while politicians allow gun-toting criminals back on to the streets with their firearms!
NPR, which was recently defunded mid-July 2025 through the rescissions bill, appears to support the Chicago Mayor's pro-crime, pro-criminal stance claiming that Chicago's crime rate has dropped (isn't it amazing how you can manipulate statistics to show whatever you want?).
CNN quotes the Illinois attorney general as saying President Trump's approach to crime is "performative" and won't have much of an impact on the "already reduced crime" in the city. The Illinois AG implies they are cooperating with FBI, DEA, ATF, and Secret Service to reduce crime. However, as a sanctuary city, I do not see this as even a remote possibility.
On the other hand, the Chicago Mayor is now calling for his citizens to "rise up" and physically fight against the deployment of the National Guard:
Frankly, if President Trump sends the NG to other cities, I think it will be in conjunction with removal of illegal aliens from our country. These illegal aliens (many of whom have been designated terrorists) are primarily responsible for the drastic increase in crime in sanctuary cities. ICE, for their own safety, cannot go in alone, so the NG will join them. And all the looniness of the left will not make a bit of difference. The loony left will continue to support illegal aliens, criminals, and crime as a foundation of their newest "Anti-Trump" platform.

Today's Patriot is Benjamin Harrison V who was born April 5, 1726 at the Harrison family homestead, Berkeley plantation, Charles City County, Virginia. It is claimed that in 1619, one of the first annual observances of Thanksgiving was held. It is also said that the first Army bugle call of Taps was written and played there in 1862. Benjamin was 3rd born but oldest son of 14 siblings, 12 of whom survived to adulthood. Benjamin was cousin to George Washington.
After the death of his father, Benjamin stepped into his father's political footprints at the Virginia House of Burgesses (starting with Surry County), even though he was not of legal age until 1752. Following that initial election, Benjamin won every re-election through 1769. After which he was elected to the Revolutionary Conventions.
Benjamin was a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1774-1777. He voted for and signed the Declaration of Independence. He oversaw the final debates and amendments on the Declaration, including the resolution from Richard Henry Lee.
He was Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates 1778-1781, 1781-1781, and 1785-1786. Taking a short break to be elected 5th Governor of Virginia from 1781-1784. From 1785 to 1791, he was re-elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.
Benjamin was 6'4" and weighted about 250 pounds. He was given the nickname "Falstaff of Congress" due to his bawdy humor, rotundity, joviality, love of good food, wine, and luxury. Even though he was 'rotund' he was describes as having a vigorous constitution until he started suffering from gout.
Benjamin died at his home from a severe bout of gout on April 24, 1791 at age 65 while celebrating his re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates. He is interred in the family plot, Charles City, Charles City County, Virginia. His wife, Elizabeth, died a year later and is interred at his side. Like many signers, he was in debt at his death.
Benjamin's son, William Henry Harrison became the 9th President of the United States in 1840 and his great-grandson, Benjamin Harrison became the 23rd President of the United States in 1888.
