The EO charges the Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of State, Secretary of Treasury, and any other senior official the Secretary of Commerce deems appropriate, will identify those countries who are also directly or indirectly importing Russian Federation Oil and report those findings to the President for consideration for the additional 25% tariff.
On August 6, 2025, the White House published the articleThe One Big Beautiful Bill Is Igniting an American Business Boom(you can find the index to all the OBBB analyses in my August 2, 2025 ANP Article) stating that the tax reforms within the bill have created a renaissance in US business competitiveness. Specifically reforms as enumerated in Title VII, Business Tax Reforms 70301 to 70354 discussed in my July 17, 2025 ANP Article, starting with full expensing, modifications on business interest, extension & enhancement of paid family and medical leave credit, exceptions from limitations on deduction for business meals, increased dollar limitations for expensing of certain depreciable business assets, special depreciation for qualified production property, and more.
The article states that companies are starting to see enhanced cash flow, accelerated job-creating investments, and increased business (especially as overseas markets open to US businesses through negotiated tariff agreements). Indeed, on August 6, 2025, Apple announced another $100,000,000 in investments in US manufacturing of its products as well as agreements with other US companies to provide necessary components for their products (see video below).
August is Purple Heart Month whereas August 7, 2025 is National Purple Heart Day honoring the men and women who have received a Purple Heart. The award was originally created in 1782 by General George Washington as a Badge of Merit for "any singularly meritorious action." It drifted into obscurity after the Revolutionary War. General Douglas MacArthur used Washington's design to create the Order of the Purple Heart. It is the oldest medal still awarded to service members. Up until 1944, the Purple Heart recognized both those wounded or killed in combat as well as a service member's commendable actions. However, in 1944, the award was limited to those wounded or killed in combat.
In 1942, a presidential order was signed to permit the Purple Heart Medal to be awarded to all branches of the military. General Douglas MacArthur was the first recipient of the Order of the Purple Heart while Army Lieutenant Annie G. Cox was the first woman to receive it during WWII. In 2014, August 7 was established as Purple Heart Day.
Recipients of a Purple Heart have been honored since 1932 (back then they honored recipients on Valentine's Day and Washington's Birthday). Over time, August 7 became the day to honor Purple Heart Recipients as that was the day George Washington is credited with creating the Badge of Merit.
The VA requests everyone take a moment of silence on August 7 to remember and honor our nation's 1.8 million Purple Heart recipients and to consider volunteering with a Purple Heart organization near you.
I suspect President Trump will issue a proclamation today in honor of Purple Heart recipients.

Yes, they are distant uncles/cousins of Confederate General Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870). The common ancestor appears to be their father, Colonel Richard Lee II (1647-1715), from the Stratford branch of Richard Lee I's (1618-1664) children. Colonel Richard Lee II was Robert E Lee's Great-Great-Grandfather through his son (Richard & Francis' brother) Henry Lee (1691-1747), his son Henry Lee II (1729-1787), and his son Henry Lee III (1756-1818) (who was General Robert Edward Lee's father) of the Lee Hall branch of the family.
Their parents died in 1750 and their oldest brother, Philip, was left in charge of them. The siblings joined forces against Philip for not following their father's will. They lost because Philip was attempting to settle debts before dividing the estate. However, their petition to replace their brother, Philip, as guardian was accepted and their cousin, Henry Lee, was appointed to be their guardian. This tiff between the siblings undermined the social and political standing of the Lee family in Virginia.
A man who loves liberty should never grant to rulers an atom of power that is necessary for the safetyand well being of society. It is now yours to guard that liberty and to grant to no government more power than is truly necessary.
Richard was home schooled until sometime between ages 11 and 16, when he was sent to study at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield, England. After graduation, he, like many of his peers, toured Europe. He returned to Virginia in 1753 because he found out his parents had died. It took a while for the announcement to catch up with him during his European travels, and there were lengthy ocean voyages involved with returning to the Colonies.
Richard married Anne Aylette on December 5, 1757. They had 6 children, 4 of whom lived to adulthood. Anne Aylette died December 12, 1768. He then married Anne Pinckard in 1769. They would have 7 more children, 5 of whom survived to adulthood.
In 1757, Richard was justice of the peace for Westmoreland County. From 1758 to 1775, Richard was a member of the House of Burgesses representing Westmoreland County. Two of his brothers and two of his cousins were also members of the House at the same time. The five of them created a voting block which did cause a bit of dissention over time.
From 1774 to 1779, again from 1784-1785, and in 1787, Richard served in the Continental Congress. Richard had returned to Virginia when Congress voted on the Declaration of Independence; but, he signed the final document upon his return.
Richard objected to a Federal government, preferring strong State governments instead. While he didn't get his wish, he did get the Bill of Rights and Amendments to the Constitution passed.
In 1777, 1780, and 1785, Richard was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, serving as its 6th President from 1784 to 1785. He served as a US Senator from Virginia from 1789 to 1792 as well as President pro tempore April 18 to October 8, 1792, during the Second Congress.
Richard believed borrowing foreign money is foolish. He also believed imposing federal taxes was abhorrent. He thought states should give up claims to the Northwest Territory to enable the federal government to fund its obligations through the sale of that land. He was instrumental in the passage of the Land Ordinance of 1785. Unfortunately, Native Americans and squatters were holding the land, refusing to move, and the Land Ordinance failed. However, it did bring about the survey system which we still use today.
Richard resigned in 1792 because of both illness and injuries from a carriage accident. He died June 19, 1794, at age 62 in Chantilly, Virginia. He was interred in Coles Point, Westmoreland, Virginia.
In my family, duty didn't end with death. It passed through generations. Now it is your duty to pass on what we fought for to future generations as well.
In 1757, Philip released their father's estate, gifting Francis land in Loudoun County. He was barely settled when he was elected to the House of Burgesses. He served as a member from 1758 to 1775, representing both Loudoun and Richmond counties. At the time there were 3 Lee brothers and 2 Lee cousins in the house. Francis signed the Westmoreland Association against the stamp act in 1766.
Francis married his 2nd cousin once removed, Rebecca Plater Tayloe, in 1769 in Richmond County, Virginia. He was 35 and she was 16 at the time of the marriage. They had no children. His father-in-law gifted the couple land in Richmond County where they built their home and called it Monoken. From 1770 until 1774, he served as justice of the peace for Richmond County. In 1771, he was justice of the peace for both Richmond and Loudoun Counties.
From 1775-1779, Francis was a member of the Continental Congress. From 1778-1782, Francis served in the Virginia State senate. From 1780 to 1781, he was a member of the State house of delegates.
By 1782, Francis retired from politics and focused on farming. Rebecca died January 7, 1797. Francis died of pleurisy January 11, 1797, at the age of 63, at Monokenin Richmond County, Virginia. They were interred, side-by-side, in the Tayloe burial ground, Mount Airy plantation, near Warsaw, Virginia.
