Feast Of St Michael, More Tariffs On Wood Products, Anticipating The Democrat Shutdown of Federal Government, US Constitution Article 1 Sections 1 & 2, And More
The Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel is a celebration that now includes Archangels Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael. It is celebrated on September 29 each year. In the past, Michael's Mass (to celebrate Archangel Michael) became the Catholic celebration of Michaelmas (originally celebrated on October 11). During the middle ages, Michaelmas was considered a Holy Day of Obligation when Catholics are expected to attend Mass and refrain from working or recreation to worship God instead (it was abolished in the 18th century). Saint Michael is the patron saint of police officers. Lutheran Christians consider the Feast of Saint Michael as a principal feast of Christ.
In 1886, nearly 140 years ago, Pope Leo XIII, leader of the Roman Catholic Church, fearing for the future of the western world, introduced the legendary Prayer to Saint Michael, which is still recited to this day in churches and homes all across our Nation and throughout the world:

On September 29, 2025, President Trump signed the Proclamation Adjusting Imports of Timber, Lumber, and their Derivative Products into the United States explaining that the Secretary of Commerce has determined that there is a national security issue for the US concerning imported wood products creating unfair trade practices. Importing these products is resulting in the shut downs of US mills resulting in the loss of US jobs for its citizens. Therefore, a 10% tariff on softwood products is set. A tariff of 25% will be applied to upholstered wood products. A tariff of 25% shall apply to whole kitchen cabinets and vanities as well as their component parts. These tariff increases will be effective October 14, 2025. On January 1, 2026, the tariff will increase to 30% for upholstered wood products and 50% for whole kitchen cabinets and vanities as well as their component parts. Wood products used in automobiles are not subject to this Proclamation as they are already covered under Proclamation 10908 of March 26, 2025. This proclamation supersedes previous tariff declarations.

The Proclamation addresses the threat to national security posed by the import of wood products. Finally, the Proclamation builds on President Trump's record of securing critical industries and supply chains to make his America First Trade Policy the law of the land.
On September 29, 2025, the White House published the article CEQ Releases Guidance to Streamline NEPA Reviews announcing the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) released the updated National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) guidance document and NEPA procedures template that have resulted from President Trump's focus on reducing regulations that act to block infrastructure projects using outdated permitting procedures.
On September 29, 2025, the White House published the article Democrats Put Veterans, Seniors, Public Safety at Risk with Shutdown Push listing quotes from various organizations urging the Democrats to agree to the "clean" Continuing Resolution Bill in order to keep the Federal Government open for another 7 weeks while Congress works to reconcile the actual funding bills.
In the past, Democrats have managed to shut down government (although they give lip service to how important it is to keep the Federal government open) under President Trump in the past. This time, President Trump is not playing by their rules. He is holding firm to allowing the government to shut down over allowing free healthcare and other benefits to illegal aliens that the Democrats are demanding in addition to President Trump is changing the rules. Instead of issuing furloughs, OMB has been authorized to issue RIF (termination) notices instead. This will be an excellent way to drastically reduce government while allowing the Democrats to identify those positions they think are "not mission essential" for the functioning of government. The threat of a government shutdown was discussed in my September 23, 2025 ANP Article reminding us this is not the first time the Democrats have forced a government shutdown and it was during President Trump's first term that the longest government shutdown to date (35 days) was enacted by the Democrats.
